Pornography is more widespread, normalised and extreme today than at any time in the history of the world.
The pornography industry generates more annual profit than Microsoft, Google, Amazon, eBay, Yahoo, Apple and Netflix combined 1.

It represents 35% of all internet downloads, with porn sites getting 2more visitors each month than Netflix, Amazon and Twitter combined3

Pornography is generally regarded as harmless fantasy, a bit of fun and a matter of individual choice. However, the reality is that it ‘transforms the sexual politics of intimate and public life.’ Today’s pornography is characterized by ‘unchecked encounters with others who can be subordinated to violent and sexual desire’ and there’s a vast and growing body of research showing the extensive and multifarious harms of pornography to individual users and to society at large. We therefore believe it’s in everyone’sƒƒ best interest to understand and to mitigate these negative effects.
